Shopping in Singapore

When to shop in Singapore
There are three best seasons to shop in Singapore. If you are looking for brand fashion new collections it would be in the months of December and January. This is to cater to two key festivities such as Christmas and the Lunar New Year. If you are looking at bargains or major sales would usually happen for at least for 2 weeks after Christmas, Lunar New Year. Another major sale season is in the month of June where all Singapore retailers gear up for the Great Singapore Sale or GSS as it is known locally. Sales during GSS range from 50 percent to 70 percent off and the discounts get better towards the end of GSS, but expect the variety to lessen as well. You will see literally everything going on sale from fashion to household goods to electrical appliances. Even restaurants have begun to participate in GSS with special discounted meals.

Where to shop in Singapore
Ion Orchard the latest hangout place in Singapore
Ngee Ann City
If you are short of time, the best place is simply to head down to Orchard Road. This is the road that has multiple malls lined up and you can basically spend a day just moving from mall to mall. In fact, a few malls are now linked and this gives you a seamless shopping experience, in air-conditioned comfort without ever having to face the humidity at street level. This can be found by taking a train and exiting at Orchard MRT. Here you will find the newest mall Ion Orchard, a mall to see and be seen. You will find high street international fashion labels such as TopShop, Dorothy Perkins, Warehouse, River Island, Mango, Zara.

Notwithstanding the luxury brands are housed in the upper floors for the rich and wannabes. The mall is connected to Wheelock Place where you can find Marks and Spencers. Walk the underground connecting pathway and this will land you at Isetan Scotts, a Japanese departmental store. Check out interesting Japanese food items at their supermarket located at the basement. To make a round back, head to the main entrance and down the escalator to another underpass that will lead you to  Tangs. Tangs is Singapore's local departmental store, similar to Macy's. I love Tangs as it carries unique, quirky, and fashionable in-house brands like Martina Pink. It is for the girl at heart. Tangs is also a great place to find good quality shoes, bags that is designed in-house, such as your Studio series. You can also find the usual international brands as you would in any departmental store. When you get back underground, you can walk towards Wisma Atria where you will find Forever21, Cotton On, and Gap. At the basement of Wisma Atria, you can connect to Ngee Ann City which houses another major Japanese departmental store called Takashimaya. Endless shopping right? Well this surely is enough for one days worth of shopping!

Best time to shop in Singapore
One of Singaporeans favorite activity is shopping, apart from eating and watching movies. Yes there is not much to do in Singapore, hence window shopping is actually an activity enjoyed. You will see that most residents will shop on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays. If you like to be part of the vibe and enjoy the hustle with everyone else, head out to shop on those days. If you are the sort that prefer a little more privacy and quietness when you shop, the best time to do so is on Monday and Tuesdays. People start shopping again from Wednesday onwards. Most shops open from 11.30am till 9.30pm. Hence, if you are a early bird riser, I would suggest going for a walk in one of Singapore's National Parks, exercising in your gym, having a leisurely breakfast, or simply lazing in bed before heading out for a day's worth of shopping.
