A holiday in Bangkok in a large group

I can't believe it I keep going back to the same destination in phases, and this time again in July a trip back to Bangkok with a large group of 5 adults and 2 kids. I was a little concerned about walking for the kids, given the stairs one would have to climb when taking the BTS (subway). However after this trip I realize it is indeed possible for families with young children to travel to Bangkok, the only thing would be that one would need to travel around at a much slower pace.

As we were looking for an service apartment that could house 5 adults and 2 kids in a 3 bedroom apartment, we could only get the Somerset Lakepoint which had such a set up.

Not sure why but I have been having a spat of choosing poor quality hotels of late. Maybe the trick is just to look for new hotels to stay in. I was quite surprised at the condition of the Somerset Lakepoint but also glad that they are making improvements to the venue. The service apartment is located across Asoke Station or where Terminal 21 is. It is quite a walk in (about 20 minutes). The service apartment offers tuk tuk service but only to the main road. A couple of local Thai massage places is located outside the apartment which is a great thing as one could have a massage after a day of walking. We frequented Jenny's massage as it had a better ambiance.

Bangkok Day 1 - Terminal 21
One of our first places we visited upon our arrival to Bangkok in the afternoon was to Terminal 21 which is basically a mall with different country themes on each floor right to the bathrooms. The intention was to feed the hungry with local Thai food before we started shopping. I like the variety and cleanliness of the food court found on the top floor of Terminal 21 where you can try local food at clean and heap prices. Terminal 21 has a floor entirely for guys, which is a good thing, as finally men can do their own shopping as well.

Bangkok Day 2 - Platinum Fashion Mall, Centralworld, Asiatique
On the second day out we started the day relatively late (around 11am) by going to Platinum Fashion Mall which is a  fashion shopping haven for ladies. Even men these days can find quite a few selection of t-shirts and short pants at the new wing. We had an early dinner where I brought the entourage of friends and family to Centralworld where we had Thai seafood dinner at Laem Charoen. I didn't know they liked the fried fish so much we had we had 2 servings. The kids had seafood fried rice which was just as tasty.

After shopping we proceeded to Asiatique which is my first time there. It's a lovely riverside shopping and eating paradise and just a pretty place to stroll about in the evening. Because of the large group I did not have time to browse around, but I did see quite a lot of arts and craft items. I also enjoyed the short but lovely boat ride from Sapan Thaksin to Asiatique.

Bangkok Day 3 - Chatujak, Siam Paragon
Our last full day at Bangkok we decided to conquer Chatujak and I managed to find some 100B dresses! It's still an amazing market to be at, with the availability of everything from clothes to household items to pets. Prices are no longer cheap but it is still worth a buy. Pause often for some of their side street snacks to refuel in the heat.

Dinner took us to Siam Paragon to do some Thai snack shopping at the supermarket and dinner at Taling Pling which to me is the best Thai casual restaurant at Siam Paragon.

Bangkok Day 4 - home sweet home
Conclusion - going with kids to Bangkok is totally possible. One just need provide many rest stops so that the kids could be fed and have a short nap if possible. And definitely the itenary cannot be one that is packed.
